Tallyproof

Bank statement converter

Turn PDF bank statements into CSV, checked row by row

Get transactions out of a PDF statement and into Excel, Xero or QuickBooks. Your file is read on this device and never uploaded. Every row is checked against the statement's own running balance, so mistakes are caught instead of imported.

How the balance check works

Most bank statements print a running balance after each transaction. Tallyproof uses it to check its own work. If a digit is misread, a row is missed or a sign is wrong, the numbers stop adding up and the row is flagged.

Credit card statements usually have no running balance. For those, Tallyproof checks that the opening balance plus every transaction equals the closing balance.

What it works with

Statements downloaded from online banking as PDFs, from any bank, as long as the PDF contains real text (you can select the words in a PDF viewer). Layouts are detected automatically: separate debit and credit columns, a single signed amount column, dates with or without years, descriptions that wrap onto several lines, and credit cards. Scanned paper statements are not supported yet.

If a statement is not read correctly, nothing about it leaves your computer, so we never see it. The FAQexplains how to report a layout without sharing the file.
